True Love

Geodes on the outside look like an ordinary rock, nothing special. Upon breaking open, they display spectacular beauty and offer a glimpse into the geological process that shaped it.

Human hearts are like geodes ~ every human has one, nothing special, hidden in the human form. We experience its spectacular beauty when we explore below the surface.

Through years of conditioning, nurturing or the lack thereof, the heart takes form. When opened it displays the processes that have shaped it. The light can now reach the places that were blocked or shadowed.

Our society glorifies love as an emotion, a contract, ownership, property, exclusive. We are about to celebrate a synthetic holiday centered around “be mine.” Artists have tried to quantify love since the beginning of time ~ through songs, poetry, paintings. Love is infinite and not quantifiable. There is no limit to love. How could we control something so vast? Love is not something we own or can possess in another. We cannot complete another.

One plus one will never equal one. One plus one equals three: The two individuals and the “garden” of their collective creation.

When tended, nurtured, fed, and attended, the “garden” thrives and creates nourishing yields for each individual to receive. Everyone thrives and grows.

When neglected, unappreciated, unattended, weeds are the only things that flourish. When trampled and belittled, the “garden” is incapable of producing anything.

True love is a holy exchange where one intentionally looks beneath the surface and explores all the tender, dark, hidden places of self and others. It is consistent and respectful even if the form or expressions shift and change.

True love allows and respects freedom of expression. It also accepts when freedom of expression is not possible or does not align with the other.
